Operations Director

Also known as: Retail Director, Food and Beverage Director, Maintenance Director, Human Resources Director, Hotel Director, Creative Director, Finance Director, Marketing and Sales Director

As an operations director you will oversee all aspects of the business, from marketing to finance. You will work closely with the regional managers to ensure the business runs smoothly, sales targets are met and the customers are satisfied.

Your day-to-day duties may involve:

• managing budgets
• recruiting and training staff
• business marketing

The operations director will co-ordinate the activities of the regional managers to ensure the business is meeting its targets and the customers are satisfied.  Customer service is essential to hospitality and tourism businesses, so the regional manager will make sure the team members are well trained and adhering to customer care policies. You will make frequent visits to each establishment and liaise with the staff, ensuring that the service is the best it can be.

It’s crucial that the operations director maintains health and safety standards and liaises with the regional managers and general manager to ensure safe working practices. You will also introduce and monitor new business opportunities to ensure continuous profit growth and a competitive advantage over other businesses.

Although the operations director is less involved at ground level, their decisions will affect every aspect of the business and its employees. For example, you may be required to build relationships with external partners, the local government and the media for the benefit of the business. The role will also involve managing revenue, responding effectively to business downturns, and managing HR practices to ensure the workforce is well trained.
